The world of Pitch and Putt is considerably the poorer for the premature passing of Kevin McCarron (RIP).

A player of immense talent from a young age, Kevin won the 1989 Munster Juvenile Strokeplay championship before claiming main provincial Strokeplay honours at Ashgrove in 1993.

Munster Matchplay finalist at Riverdale in 1993, Kevin regularly represented Kerry with distinction in the Inter-County arena.

Kevin’s tuneful singing and enthusiastic bodhrán playing enlivened many a social gathering.

One of the original international Pitch and Putt pioneers, Kevin played for Great Britain in the inaugural 1999 European Team Championship (1999), encouraged by the late, great Willie Parker.

Resident in Harrow and Wealdstone at the time and employed in the decorating industry, Kevin won three matches during Great Britain’s run to the final, in which he faced Ireland against the backdrop of a thunderstorm.

Devoted to his home town club, Kevin served Listowel in every capacity imaginable, including fund-raising and course maintenance, for which he possessed a particular gift.

Kevin’s passion for our sport was unquestionable and he acted as a judicious Chairman of Kerry County Board for a number of years.

As a dedicated County Juvenile Officer, he helped steer Kerry to provincial and national Under-16 glory in 2019.

Mirroring his Dad’s aptitude for Pitch and Putt, Kevin’s son Bobby was a member of the successful Kerry National Juvenile Inter-County side in 2019.

Many of Kevin’s family were inspired by Kevin’s exploits on the course and his brother Declan was National Intermediate Strokeplay champion in 2010.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Kevin’s mother Jane, son Bobby, his sisters, Anne Marie, and Sinéad, and to his brothers John, Michael, Adrian, Niall, and Declan.
