Preview - National Ladies Strokeplay - Junior

2025 Ladies National Strokeplay – Junior Preview by John manning
Catherine Keane (Glenville) has been a loyal supporter of and consistent prize winner in Ladies provincial social tournaments. Catherine tees-off first with Lucan Lady Captain and 2024 Dublin Mixed Scramble winner Ann Heffernan.
Three-time All-Ireland Ladies Matchplay Nett Cup semi-finalist Veronica Anglim of Hillview contested the Munster Matchplay final in 2019. Veronica’s playing partner will be Ann Williams (Ryston), whose victory in the 2022 National Over-55s Junior grade Strokeplay championship shows that Newbridge lady has the game for championships of this stature and few will know McDonagh better.
Another player with plenty of local knowledge will be Catherine Dillon (St. Bridget’s), who was 2017, 2018 and 2025 Leinster Mixed Foursomes winner with husband Ian.
2024 National Over-55s Junior Strokeplay champion Catherine Dunne (Riverdale) is a player of proven pedigree with two provincial Strokeplay runners-up finishes in addition to a silver in this National Junior Strokeplay championship at Kilbeggan (the 2020 championship played in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic). Catherine also collected a National Mixed Team Event bronze medal in 2007.
Cunnigar’s Julie Kiely finished as runner-up in the 2025 Munster Junior Strokeplay championship having reached the Cork Matchplay final a year earlier.
Margaret O’Donovan (Bruff) was the National Over-55s Junior Strokeplay champion at E.S.B. in 2019, the year she also reached the All-Ireland Ladies Matchplay Nett Cup semi-finals.
A very interesting grouping pairs 2023 Cork Strokeplay and Matchplay double winner Eileen Hanley (The Ranges) with Loughlinstown’s Betty Cody, a former All-Ireland Ladies Matchplay Nett Cup runner-up who won the National Over-55s Intermediate grade Strokeplay champion at Gaeil Colmcille in 2014 having won the junior at Tullamore five years earlier.
2023 Munster Junior Strokeplay champion Nuala McNamara (Collins) came third in this National Junior Strokeplay championship at St. Stephen’s in 2016. Nuala is joined by Collinstown’s Tracy Monaghan, a 2024 All-Ireland Ladies Matchplay Nett Cup quarter-finalist.
Glenville’s Anne Flynn was third behind Ann Williams in that 2022 National Over-55s Junior grade Strokeplay championship at Bellewstown.
Reigning Munster Matchplay champion Michelle O’Connell (Cunnigar) will travel north with plenty of confidence.
Cloghogue send their, by now, customary cohort of contenders. Bronagh Crilly is the reigning Leinster Junior Matchplay champion.
Darlene Parr was a session winner at last year’s Leinster Mixed Foursomes while Anne Jackson reached this year’s Leinster Matchplay semi-finals at Navan.
Glenville will have a round dozen representatives, which also include former provincial Matchplay semi-finalist Eileen Cousins and 2018 Leinster Strokeplay runner-up Catherine Fox, who was crowned National Over-55s Junior Strokeplay champion in 2015.
