Our new President in profile

Congratulations to the new President of Pitch and Putt Ireland Davy Reddin (Custume)
Westmeath Intermediate Grade Strokeplay Champion in 1979 at Athlone, Davy Reddin achieved the County Strokeplay/Matchplay double in 2009. The Strokeplay title was secured at Collinstown while he emerged victorious at Custume in the Matchplay.
He was also Intermediate Strokeplay runner-up in 2004, shooting 99 at Custume to the 98 of clubmate Harry O’Hanlon.
Davy first ascended to the NEC as PRO in 2013.
He served as a hugely efficient Leinster Competitions Coordinator from 2014 to 2021 and was rewarded with the National Competitions Coordinator role for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Davy was elected National Vice President during 2024 National Convention in the Templemore Arms Hotel.
Davy had originally sought high office at Leinster Council level.
After an unsuccessful bid for the provincial Registrar post in 1997, Davy attended the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland Leinster Council Convention that was held at Navan clubhouse on 7 November 1999. In a three-way contest for the vacant Leinster Vice President's position, Michael Murphy from the Old County club in Dublin's Crumlin was elected, defeating Meath County Board Chairman Frank Brady (Navan) and Davy Reddin from the Custume club in Athlone.
A keen player always, Davy contested the 2009 National Intermediate Strokeplay at Tralee.
A regular campaigner on the Scratch Cup circuit, Davy won Collinstown Intermediate Scratch Cup in 2005 with 103 and Custume Intermediate Scratch Cup in 2013 with a similar score.
Athlone GAA Pitch and Putt Club Juvenile Player of the Year in 1976, Davy was elected Assistant Secretary of the club in 1979 having also been Juvenile Officer of Athlone.
In 1980, he won the Carrolls’ sponsored Athlone Sportstar of the Year for Pitch and Putt in recognition of his efforts for Pitch and Putt, both on and off the course.
Although still involved with Athlone GAA Pitch and Putt club, Defence Forces employee Davy set about developing a new Pitch and Putt course in Athlone in the early 1990s.
Prompted by Davy, Colonel Quilty (Commanding Officer Custume Barracks) approved a grant of IR £50 (€60) for equipment to construct the new course on army property.
Davy designed the new layout in conjunction with Leo Flanagan RIP along with former Leinster Council President John Kelly RIP.
Opened in 1994, Custume has developed into one of the best courses around.
Chairman of the All-Army Pitch and Putt set-up for a decade, Davy won three All-Army medals for Pitch and Putt - in 2012, 2015 and 2017.
An astute manager of Westmeath Inter-County teams, Davy led his charges to provincial Inter-County runners-up spot on two occasions. In 2005 and 2012.
Chairman of Westmeath County Board between 1995 and 1997, Davy served on that body for a stunning total of 28 years.
Davy has been a long serving Secretary of Custume. First appointed in 2003, Davy still holds the position more than two decades on.
For years, Custume Army Barracks hosted the John Kelly Memorial. This tournament was open to all present and past Custume Army Barracks members. As a player and in his various administrative roles, John Kelly was a terrific advocate for the sport of Pitch and Putt in Athlone, across Leinster and throughout Ireland. He was also a member of Athlone Army Custume Barracks. Davy Reddin organised and ran this tournament for many years.
We wish Davy every success during his Presidential term.
