Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and friends of D.J. Hinchy, formerly of Bruff Pitch and Putt club.

D.J. served as Vice President of Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland’s Munster Council in 1999 and 2000 under the Presidency of P.J. Curtin (Kilmichael) and alongside such Officers as Roger Barron (Tramore), Helen McMorrow (Lakeside), Paddy Lynch (Listowel), Peter Healy (The Ranges), Dan Cronin (Kilmichael), Mary O'Reilly (Parteen), Richard Walsh (Waterford Crystal) and Steven Enneguess (Lakewood).

D.J. was elected President of Munster Council at provincial Convention in the Firgrove Hotel, Mitchelstown in November 2000.

D.J. Hinchy's Presidency of the Munster Council opened up in the best manner possible in early April 2001. His first ever provincial competition as Munster supremo (Examiner Munster Mixed Team Event) was played at his beloved Bruff course. Bruff B won while Bruff A were runners-up.

D.J. fulfilled the role of Past President for the 2002 and 2003 seasons, supporting Roger Barron’s Presidency before Munster Council was disbanded in late 2003.

Widely acknowledged for his calm and measured contributions to meetings, D.J. served as Munster  Delegate to Central Council for a number of years under the old Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland administrative structure (prior to the first Strategic Plan).

D.J. served the Limerick County Board in a multiplicity of capacities, including Competitions Secretary and P.R.O. It was in that latter role that he arranged for Myles McMorrow, P.J. Curtin, Peter Healy, Steven Ennegues and himself to be interviewed on Limerick Cable TV (filmed at Bruff during the 1999 Munster Strokeplay championships).

D.J. was always very helpful to fellow administrators and players alike. The great Liam O’Donovan won some of his many titles using a sand iron (make unknown!) borrowed from D.J.

D.J. won two Munster Strokeplay team championship silver medals. In 1996 at Clare Road, he teamed-up with James Conway, Christy Tydings and Joe O'Riordan to score 460 and finish second to Riverdale. At Clare Road in 2002, D.J.’s teammates were Stephen O'Riordan, John Farrell, Thomas Hanley and James O’Donovan as Bruff posted  429 to be runners-up behind a local Clare Road side.

Back in the days of Central Council, Munster Council and Leinster Council, the annual Inter Council Challenge was a major event for all administrators.  Munster Council won the event in 1998 at Athgarvan helped in no small part by a virtuoso performance from D. J. Hinchy.

Emphasising his co-operative nature and his conviviality, D.J. had a particular penchant for Team events regularly playing alongside Bruff friends and clubmates like Phil McNamara, Joe Ring, Ann Breen and Bridget McCarthy.

May D.J. rest in peace.
