Active School Week
Club Involvement in Active School Week
Active School Week (ASW) is an initiative by the Department of Education and Skills and Healthy Ireland who encourage ALL schools to organise an Active School Week (ASW) as part of their annual school calendar. All details of the initiative are to be found at www.activeschoolflag.ie.
As part of this the PPUI are encouraging clubs to get involved in this initiative where possible and provide schools with an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the physical activity opportunities that are available in their locality and to work collaboratively with students, parents and members of the community.
The initiative involves clubs making their facilities available for schools to bring some students down and try out the sport.
Many clubs have already been contacted regarding this offer and 25 already have their contact details on the website as can be seen on the following link, http://activeschoolflag.ie/index.php/active-school-week-offers/. Many other clubs have been e-mailed details of the offer and will hopefully have a positive response.
I will continue to make contact with clubs over the next week or two, but if your club are interested in becoming involved or if you would like more information regarding this initiative please feel free to contact me in the office on 01-6251110 or by e-mail to [email protected].
