2025 National Matchplay Results

Victory for Earls and Sheedy.
Over the last weekend, the Pitch and Putt Ireland National Matchplay Championships were played at Erry Pitch and Putt Club in Co Offaly, as well as co-host club Tullamore, which hosted the earlier events in the intermediate and junior sections. The Championship is a display of all that is good within our game.
Kieran Earls from Bruff was crowned National Gents Senior Matchplay Champion with a 5&4 victory over Eamon Gibney from Castletown. This is Kieran's second time winning the National Matchplay Trophy, and he also currently holds the National Gents Strokeplay Championship title.
In the semi-finals, Eamon Gibney from the Castletown club defeated Ray Murphy from St Anne's with a 4&3 victory, and Kieran Earls defeated Anthony Galvin from Tullamore with a 2-up victory.
Our ladies Senior winner is Chrissy Sheedy from Ryston, who defeated Amy Galvin from Tullamore with a 6&5 scoreline to complete a fantastic event for Chrissy. The beaten semi-finalists were Breda White (Tipperary Hills), who was beaten by Amy Galvin in a stunning match, and Tara Dillon from Ryston, who was defeated by Chrissy Sheedy. Absolutely brilliant play all round.
In the Gents Intermediate event, the winner was another local player, Mark Hogan from Tullamore, with a 2&1 victory over Noel Stapleton from Lakeside. Noel had overcome John O'Keefe from the Custume club earlier in the morning, and Mark had taken care of Billy Buckley from Collinstown club in matches of the highest order.
The Junior Gents event was won by John Kelly from Athgarvan with a 3&2 margin over Padraig Hannon Fermoy. The beaten semi-finalists were Paul Carr from Bagenalstown and JP Ryan from Ardnacrusha.
In the Ladies net event, the winner for the second time in three years was Audrey Donnelly from McBride, who won by a 3&2 margin over Laura Fogarty from Athgarvan. The beaten semi-finalists were Marie Clarke from Poulaphouca and Angela Connelly from Eden.
The Erry Club provided a tricky and excellently presented course, despite the trying windy conditions for the final rounds. It was a brilliant rendition of the championship, a true feast of pitch and putt over the weekend.
Also, a huge congratulations to Erry Pitch and Putt for a spectacular weekend—having the course in exceptional condition and being fantastic hosts. They overcame so much in the last few weeks and delivered on every front. There’s no doubt their late treasurer Sean Sheridan would be proud.
