Originally from Kilcorney, Millstreet, Co. Cork, Stephen Enneguess joined St. Anne’s Pitch and Putt club in 1975. In the intervening years, he has been an outstanding player, official and coach.

Having moved to live in Ovens In 1985, Stephen joined Lakewood. He became very interested in coaching and was quickly installed as Lakewood’s club coach. Stephen tutored extensively at Lakewood and in other Cork clubs such as Midleton, Inniscarra, The Ranges, Brinny, Kilmichael and Bishopstown.

One of Stephen’s early experiences as a mentor was as coach to the Ovens Community Games Pitch and Putt team at the National Games in Mosney.

Other products of Stephen Enneguess’ indefatigable coaching and development work were the Colaiste Choilm (Ballincollig) teams that won the Munster Schools’ Tournament in 2001 and 2002 and the Cork Girls event in 1999.

A keen observer of Formula One and golf, Stephen achieved royally in his participation sport of choice. He played Pitch and Putt to a handicap of two. Having been Lakewood Club Strokeplay and Matchplay champion, he famously won the President’s Prize in September 1991. Over 100 players competed, and Stephen came out on top with +17.

Having been awarded a Level One Certificate under the P.P.U.I.’s Coaching Programme in 1994, Stephen graduated with distinction from the National Coaching and Training Centre (Limerick) in 1996 as an accredited Coaching Tutor. He facilitated many Coach Training Course seminars with Junior Smith, Tommy Foley and Michael Hayes.

In his trademark schools coaching sessions which he has conducted for many years with the assistance of local club helpers, Stephen’s modus operandi is to bring groups of pupils to nearby courses for short coaching sessions.  The boys and girls are then invited to join the club, if they are interested.  Stephen has visited clubs right across Munster and sometimes even ventured further afield.

In 2002, Stephen Ennegues participated in a weekend session alongside the Planning Group for the first P.P.U.I. Strategic Plan to agree draft Mission, Vision, Values and Goals for the Union. His reward for that was to be asked to sit on the Coaching Training and Development Committee formed under that P.P.U.I. Strategic Plan (2002-2005).

Having been first elected as Provincial Coach at 1995 Convention, Stephen served steadfastly on Munster Council up to 2003 – as Juvenile Officer, Competitions Secretary and Vice President.

In November 2009, Stephen Enneguess was deservedly appointed National Coach of the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland.

Stephen delivered the first ever Pitch and Putt Summer Camp in Douglas and many more exciting initiatives followed. Easter Camps have been added to the schedules and camps have been facilitated at courses such as Deerpark, Tralee, Seapoint, MacBride, St. Bridget’s, Hillview, Old County, Collins and elsewhere.

As an innovative P.R.O. and Vice-Chairman of Cork County Board, Stephen introduced very popular competition launch nights and other promotional ideas.

Stephen’s son, David was a member of Lakewood in his youth. Lakewood’s juveniles, under Stephen’s guidance, won the 2013 Cork Juvenile League and Anthony McSweeney was selected on the Cork inter county team, demonstrating Stephen’s ongoing commitment to coaching and development.

First elected to the P.P.U.I. NEC in 2011, Stephen was appointed National Development and Marketing Officer in 2014. During his tenure in that role, Stephen delivered many worthwhile sponsorships for the Union. He has personally sponsored the Cork County over-55s Strokeplay championships.

Stephen was conferred a Patron of Pitch and Putt Ireland in 2025.
