Seventh title for Alan Hanlon who wins Custume Scratch Cup 2013.

We were treated to an awesome display of Pitch & Putt by Alan Hanlon (Collinsgown) at the The Danny & Christine Reddin Memorial Custume Scratch Cup which took place last Sunday.

A large contingent of players from Custume,Collinstown, Kilbeggan, Granard, Tullamore, Erry, Glenville, Lough Owel and Granard took part.  Early clubhouse scores were set by Michael Foley (Custume) 10 under, Larry Maher (Clara), Sean Dinnegan (Lough Owel) & Pat Malone (Custume) 9 under par., but it was Alan Hanlon who posted a terrific two rounds of 17 under par(49 & 42) and Rene Bloem (Collinstown) on 12 under that would make up the final 2 ball pairing.  Even though Alan had a 5 shot lead going into the final round he still had to get the job done and that is exactly what he did.  A masterclass in pitching & putting was produced by Alan as he posted a final round of 8 under to leave him with a cumulative total of 25 under par and thus taking his seventh title win at the Custume Scratch Cup.  Alan also makes history by becoming the first player to win playing both right and left handed.  Terrific stuff.  The local Custume players didnt dissapoint as they rallied in the final play off round and Michael Foley took a well deserved second place on 16 under par.  Martin Kenny pipped Larry Maher to take 3rd place on 15 under par.  The other big story of the day was the performance of junior player Declan Murphy (Custume) who not only made the final round play off but took the prize for the best final round on 7 under par.

Thanks to all the members (under the co-ordination of our Chairman Martin Kenny) who put in a lot of hard work in the last 4 weeks in preparing our course for this competition.  The hard work of Eddie Hyland and John Joyce was paramount in getting the greens and surrounding course areas in such great shape. The course has been complimented by all participants of this competition and we look forward to playing host to the Westmeath Strokeplay championships at the end of May.

Thanks to all players who supported this event.  Thanks to Shauan Reddin and Lee Conlon who worked hard all day in providing tea & refreshments for the players.

Finally thanks to the Reddin Family (Fardrum) who organise and sponsor this annual event.
