The Rochfortbridge President’s Prize 2026 held in honour of Club President Bill Swords, attracted a strong turnout with 16 members and 12 visitors from Eden, Lough Owel, Kilbeggan and Collinstown taking part. Players were met with dry but cold and, at times, windy conditions, making scoring challenging across the field.
The competition format was 36 holes Singles Strokeplay, combining 18 holes Nett and 18 holes Gross, which tested both consistency and overall performance.
In the members’ section, Gerry Coyne emerged as the overall winner with a combined score of 100. He was closely followed by Mick Mangan, who secured the runner-up spot with a score of 102. Colm Yeates delivered the best Gross round of the day with a score of 51, while Andrew Coyne claimed the best Nett round with an excellent 43.
The visitors’ competition also saw strong performances. John Donnelly took first place with a score of 97, followed by Stephen Ruane in second place on 100. Third place went to Mick Cunningham with a score of 104.
The hole in one Prize was won by Mick Morrisey with an ace on the short 6th, well done Mick.
A sincere thank you goes to all players who supported the President’s Prize. Special appreciation is extended to those who helped prepare the course—your efforts did not go unnoticed. Thanks also to Patricia McCarthy for providing the refreshments, and to Jess White and Emma Hogan for serving them on the day. Finally, a personal word of thanks to Derek McKevitt for his assistance with entries and scoring.
Overall, despite the challenging conditions, the event proved to be a great success and a fitting tribute to the Club President.
