PPUI GARDA VETTING
Changes to Garda Vetting
From 29th April on changes are being made to the Garda Vetting process with the introduction of a new piece of legislation, National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016.
Briefly this means that all individuals who are working with children or vulnerable persons must be Vetted by clubs. The Act is also clear that only individuals carrying out “Relevant Work”, which is work directly in contact with children or vulnerable persons, need to be Vetted. An individual involved in the club or using the club’s facilities who is not working directly with children or vulnerable adults does not need to be Vetted.
A summary of the changes to the Vetting process can be found by clicking HERE.
The PPUI have released new Garda Vetting forms which can be found by clicking HERE. This also includes clear instructions on how to complete forms and what is required of both the club and the individual.
It is important to note that all Garda Vetting carried out by the PPUI is done on behalf of clubs and not for individual persons on an individual basis.
A letter to all clubs in relation to this is being prepared and will be sent out before the end of the week. If anyone requires further information regarding this, please don’t hesitate in contacting PPUI Garda Vetting Liaison, Paul Hayes by e-mail [email protected] or in the PPUI office on 01-6251110.
