A Chara,

As we begin to enjoy ourselves again in playing our beloved sport we especially want to extend a big welcome to any returning or new members to our game at the current time. It has been very encouraging to learn of some high levels of new registrations in some of our clubs. The new public health regulations have taken some getting used to but we are delighted to see everyone enjoying our sport in a casual setting for the time being.

For those of you who are new to our sport we hope that you have been made to feel welcome as you start out in our game. It is the NEC’s intention to post some information relating to the basics of our game as we move through the roadmap in the weeks ahead. We await confirmation of how matters proceed from here in consultation with Sport Ireland but we look forward to some form of club competitions returning in the coming weeks if all goes to plan.

I know it will be strange for many of our regulars not to be travelling to Cashel this weekend for our National Matchplay Championships or trying to keep up with affairs online for the first time since the twinning of both events back in 1994. However the NEC hopes to be in a better position in the coming weeks to be able to confirm the overall picture the rest of 2020 may take.

I hope everyone stays safe over the Bank Holiday Weekend and everyone keeps up the great fight that has been undertaken thus far to suppress the spread of Covid-19 all over the island.

Yours in Sport,

Mervyn Cooney
