The PPUI are hosting a Level 1 Coach Education course in Parteen in the coming month. The course is open to any member of the PPUI who has a strong interest in coaching and is particularly aimed at those in Munster clubs. A course was recently held in Lucan for Leinster coaches and there will be another held in the Leinster area in the Autumn. Participation on the course will equip coaches with the ability to introduce 8-12 year old children to the basic skills of Pitch and Putt successfully and to develop those skills appropriately. While the course is primarily aimed at providing the skills to coach entry level children, coaches will also be fully equipped to coach persons of all ages and abilities, including adults. The overall cost of the course is €50 per person. There is a brief assessment of coaching competence at the end with a few small take home exercises which are all fairly straightforward. Once qualified, all coaches will receive a PPUI windbreaker as well as their Coaching Ireland/PPUI Certificate. A full Level One course outline is available online in the Downloads (Other) Section of should anyone wish to view it. It gives you all the details and requirements of the course. You can also access the outline by clicking the link below. As you can see in the requirements, participant coaches will not be certified until they have completed the Irish Sports Council Course: Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport. This three hour course is run frequently by Local Sports Partnerships across the country and is essential for anyone dealing with young children in sport. Assistance and Guidance will be provided to coaches in order to set up course dates. Coaches must also complete a Garda Vetting form for coaching Pitch and Putt and achieve satisfactory clearance in order to gain certification.
The course takes place over two days and both days must be completed in order to complete qualification. The following are the dates for the course due to take place:
A few of places on the course have already been taken by people who had previously expressed an interest in the coaching course. However, there are places still available. These places usually disappear fast so please enquire about the course as soon as possible.
For more information on the course or for clarification on anything above, please contact the PPUI office.
