2017 NATIONAL UNDER 16 INTER-COUNTY

CORK retained their National U-16 Inter-County title and won a 17th Tommy Murphy Cup in total after a six shot victory over Munster Champions Kerry in Erry this afternoon. Cork led from start to finish leading Kerry by three shots after the Scotch Foursomes. The combination of Iain Aherne & Dylan Seymour brought in a round of seven under par with Cian Murphy and Liam McGrath shooting six under as Jack McCarthy & Erin Moloney also had six under for Kerry.

 

            The best Scotch Foursomes round would be shot by Offaly combination Niall Robbins & Daniel Fox however with eight under par as they lay third overall after the first 18 holes. Two Cork players had the best Singles round however with both Iain Aherne and Cian Murphy shooting four under par each as Glenn Towler followed in with three under in aiding Cork towards their winning total of 409, 23 under par. Liam McGrath and Aaron Roche were the other members of the winning Rebel side as for the second year in-a-row Kerry finished as runners-up.

 

            Cillian Courtney, Jack McCarthy and Darragh O’Callaghan all had three under par in the Singles but in the end the side which also featured Robbie Harnett and Adam Kelly had to settle for a tournament score of 17 under par, 415. Leinster Champions Meath would get the better of the hosts to claim third meanwhile, three under for Seanie Bellew and one under for Evan Carry along with level par for both Sean Clerkin and Joseph Smith helping them to a tournament total of 430, two under par. Killian Smyth and Katie Rose Heeney were the other members of the Royal County side.

 

Offaly finished the tournament on 445, five shots ahead of Westmeath in fifth on 450 with both Louth and Dublin finishing the tournament on 453.
