THE Semi-Final line-up for the Gents Handicap Section of next weekend’s National Inter-Club Finals Day was confirmed in Parteen this morning as the Quarter-Finals through up some interesting results. Most of the drama came in the Deerpark vs. Lakeside encounter as it took a Hole-in-One in a playoff was needed to decide the outcome.

The sides were level after the Scotch Foursomes, Anthony Maher & Jim Molloy for Lakeside (4&3) and Michael Foley & Brian Moloney for Deerpark (2&1) getting their respective points as they was nothing to separate either Deerpark’s James Fleming & Lee O’Callaghan or Lakeside’s Alan Maher & Paul Shoer Snr after their match. However when both clubs share the Singles 3-3, Brian Moloney (3&2), Darragh O’Callaghan (2&1) and James Fleming (1up) for Deerpark, Paul Shoer Snr (2&1) Alan Maher & Martin McCormack (both 1up) for Lakeside, the drawn Scotch Foursomes match was played to a conclusion.

James Fleming would subsequently find the bottom of the tricky first hole’s cup with his pitch to ensure a 5-4 victory for the Killarney side. They will play another Tipperary side, Riverdale, in the Semi-Finals after the Nenagh club got the better of Collins by 5.5 to 3-5. Wins for Sean Minogue & Dean Courtney (3&2) and John Minogue & Seamus Gleeson (1up) put them 2-1 up after the Scotch Foursomes, Karl O’Keeffe and Sean Herbert getting Collins’ point (2&1). Riverdale pushed on for victory with wins for Victor Long (5&4), John Minogue (2&1) and Dean Courtney (1up) with Karl O’Keeffe (2&1) and Paul Scannell (3&2) getting Collins’ Singles points. The match between Nicky Byrne and Brian Long finished in a draw.

The Second Semi-Final will be between Gowran 1 and Fermoy as the Kilkenny club had a 6-3 victory over Hillview. Derek Whelan & James Brennan (1up) along with Michael Keogh and Nicholas Brennan (4&3) were victorious in the Scotch Foursomes as David Cahill and Adrian Anglim (2&1) got a point for Hillview to make it 2-1 at the half-way stage. The Clonmel club had only two wins in the Singles however as Paul Sweeney (6&5) and Joe Hickey (1up) got their points with Nicholas Brennan (6&5), Derek Delaney (2&1) and both Kevin Knox and Derek Delaney (1up) ensured a 6-3 win for Gowran.

Fermoy had beaten St Annes last Saturday in Parteen thanks mainly to not losing a match in the Singles. Ian Leech & Clint O’Keeffe along with Richie Kelleher & Declan Sheehan had won two Scotch Foursomes matches for St Annes but Fermoy powered through in the Singles with Robbie, Peter and Stephen O’Donovan along with Keith Flynn and Jimmy Quinn all winning their matches and JJ Quirke halving with Clint O’Keeffe.

6-5 to 2.5 was the winning margin in the end for Fermoy.
