The Leinster Matchplay qualifying round took place today at Custume Pitch and Putt Club under excellent conditions. The weather was sunny and calm, providing ideal playing conditions, though the course itself proved extremely challenging, with firm greens testing all competitors.
The club was represented by four players:
Intermediate Grade: Derek McKevitt
Senior Grade: Colm Yeates, Mark Newman, and Gerry Coyne
In the Intermediate section, Derek McKevitt put in a solid performance but was unfortunately unable to secure one of the two qualifying spots for the finals at McDonagh Pitch and Putt Club.
There was better news in the Senior Grade, where the club enjoyed notable success. Mark Newman and Gerry Coyne both qualified for the finals, finishing in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. A strong achievement against tough competition.
Congratulations to both qualifiers, and best of luck to them in the finals at McDonagh Pitch and Putt Club on May 9th and 10th.
All club players who participated today will receive points toward the 2026 Player of the Year standings. An updated table will be published shortly.
