The National Ladies Social Day took place at the Royal Meath Club in Clonee on Saturday 2nd November.  A total of 182 Ladies participated in the fun day which had to be reduced from a 36 hole competition to 18 holes due to the volume of entries.

Play got underway with the 1st Session starting at 10.00am and the team of Pauline Balfe (Old County), Betty Cody (Loughlinstown) and Mary Evans (Ierne) went into an early lead with a score of 33 2/3.

In the 2nd session the team with National Champion Chrissie Byrne (St. Bridget’s) in their ranks along with Teresa Mooney and Mary Glennon both from Castletown posted a fantastic score of 32 to take over the lead.

In the 3rd and 4th Sessions the previous scores were not overtaken.  The weather conditions throughout the day were very cold and damp, however, it did not dampen the spirits of the Ladies playing and supporting as they all enjoyed their cup of tea or coffee along with the Sandwich and the biscuits provided by the Royal Meath club free of charge all day.  The atmosphere throughout the day both on the Course and in the Clubhouse was fantastic.

Over 110 of the Ladies then retired to the Grasshopper Inn where Dinner was served and the presentation of prizes took place.  The President of the Pitch and Putt Union of Ireland Mr Eamonn Birchall thanked all the Ladies for their attendance and said it had been a great day.  He said the Social Day had gone from strength to strength over the years, he also thanked the Royal Meath Club for the use of their facilities and the ground staff headed by Billy Lynch for the fabulous condition of the Course.

1st Chrissie Byrne (St. Bridget’s), Teresa Mooney and Mary Glennon (both Castletown) 32
