Finally the sun shone on Royal Meath as the final day of the 2012 Pitch & Putt World Cup took place. Starting at 9.00am therewere four sets of matches

7th/8th Great Britain v Galicia

5th/6th Switzerland v Catalonia

3rd/4th Netherlands v Norway

Final   Ireland v Australia


Each match is divided into two sections, section 1 comprises a foursomes and a singles while section two comprises three singles matches. The first team to reach three points is the winner of the match. Ireland started at 10.00am and we would hope to have the result of the first section by 12.00


For the 7th and 8th place playoff Galicia took a 2-0 over Great Britain after the first two rounds.Juan Carlos Inglesias Surribas & Enrique Rama (Galicia) bt Steve Deeble &   Jamie Deeble (Great Britiain) 1 up, Peter Mervin Henry (Galicia) bt. Ron Cope(Great Britain) 2&1. Galicia won the first of the three singles matches to bring them to the magical 3 points needed for victory and although Great Britain won the next two matches Galicia claimed seventh place by a margin of 3-2. Inthe 5th and 6th place playoff Switzerland had a 1½-½ lead over Catalonia, Silvano Umberg & Helmut Rath (Switzerland) bt Marc Lloret & Antonio Penalva (Catalonia) 4&3, Ueli Lamm (Switzerland) halved with Fernando Cano (Catalonia). In the 3rd and 4th place play off Norway & Holland shared the honours with one match each, Anders Langeland & Brent Kristland Nerland (Norway) bt. Patrick Lunning & Marcel Ahuis (Holland), Rolf Kwant bt. Jon Djup 3&2. Holland had a grand slam of all three singles as they stormed to a 4-1 victory over Norway to take third place, Marcel Ahuis (Holland) bt. Jon Djup (Norway) 5&4, Patrick Lunning (Holland) bt. Anders Langeland (Norway) 1up, Rolf Kwant (Holland) bt. Brent Kristiand Nerland (Norway) 4&1. Match Result Holland 4 Norway 1    Finishing Position Norway 4th Holland3rd


In the final Ireland took a 2-0 lead over Australia as Ray Murphy & John Crangle (Ireland) bt James Rogerson & Tom Rickit (Australia) 1up, John Walsh (Ireland) bt Brendon Underwood (Australia) 2up. Ireland won all three singles matches to win the World Cup by a 5 nil score. Leading 2-0 after the first section Ray Murphy (Ireland) bt. Brandon Underwood (Australia) to clinch victory. He was followedby John Crangle (Ireland) who bt. Tom Rickit (Australia) 3&2 while John Walsh (Ireland) made it a clean sweep when he defeated Brendon Underwood(Australia) 1 up.  Final Result Ireland 5 Australia 0.
