Martin Kenny wins Galway Masters

Last Sunday in Mellows Custume’s Martin Kenny lifted the prestigious Galway Masters Trophy for 2013.  Martin has been playing some excellent pitch & putt in recent competitions and it was not surprising that he won this Masters.  Martin set a fast pace with a outstanding 2 opening rounds of 45 & 42 (21 under par).  This score would indeed lead into the final play off.  In hot pursuit of Martin was Alan Hanlon (recent Custume Scratch Cup winner) on 19 under, Kieran Earls 16 under & Willie Kennedy 15 under.  Not much happened for any of the players on the front nine.  Martin managed 1 under with Alan at level par.  Kieran Earls proceeded to have 6 under for his round, thus club house leader on 22nd under par.  Despite an edgy start Martin birdied 10 & 11, held a long putt for par on 14.  Now that he has his nose in front, he could taste victory and capped off the final round with birdies at 16 & 17 which gave him a final round score of 5 under and a overall victory score of 26 under par.  This is magnificent scoring for any Masters/Scratch Cup.  A massive congratulations to Martin on winning his first Major Competition of 2013.  We must mention our other Custume players of Pat Malone, John Joyce, Andy Duffy, Michael Foley, Sean Langdon who all stayed on for the final round to support Martin in his quest for victory.
