On Sunday 2nd August we held the Rochfortbridge Pitch and Putt Club Strokeplay. There was a great turnout of 12 players competing for this cup which was introduced to the club in 2024.
The maintenance team once again had the course to a championship standard. Thanks to all the maintenance team but a special mention for Vincent "Hands" Conroy who gave up his free time to mow the greens for the competition. They were like carpets.
Thanks again to Competition Secretary Gerry Coyne and Derek McKevitt for all their work in running the competition.
To Trish McCarthy and Pat McCarthy for looking after us all with tea, coffee and scones thank you.
The prizes for the the club strokeplay were the best 18n/18g Winner and 36Nett Runner Up. We also prizes for the best 18 nett and 18 gross.
The scores were very close once again for the cup. Pat McCarthy shot a super -7 gross to give him a total score of -11 and was the clubhouse leader. Gerry Coyne, fresh off his Kilbeggan Scratch Cup victory was also being watched. He put in a brilliant gross score of -11 but due to his handicap it was reduced to -10. However it was Mark Kelly who had a wonderful second round score of -8 making a total of -10 gross for a total of -12 and a one shot victory. This included an incredible par saving putt on the 36th hole to claim his third club major this year.
