Just one hour before start of play in the Gents Senior Strokeplay and Rocklodge is an oasis of calm with the greens a gorgeous lush colour which belies the fact that less than 24 hours ago almost every green held lakes of water on which ducks could happily have paddled. Notwithstanding the heavy rain and the fact that both the Junior and Intermediate Championships have already been played the course is in superb condition. Tremendous credit is due to the Rocklodge members for the Trojan effort yesterday to ensure the course was playable and the condition today bears testament to the fact that this effort was not a one off.

At 8.30 (weather permitting) the first of the Senior competitors will tee off and start what is a greatly anticipated event with a field that is bristling with talent and which contains an unprecedented 16 former senior Strokeplay champions. Although the portents would suggest it will be a Cork winner with such a field the outcome may be nowhere as clearcut.

So for the best in play come to Rocklodge today and watch competitive Pitch & Putt played on one of Ireland’s most historic courses.
