HOME advantage told true for Meath in the Leinster U-16 Inter-County event in Navan this evening as they had eight shots to spare over holders Westmeath in the rearranged event following last Saturday’s unfortunate postponement.

The Royal County had nine under combined for their Scotch Foursomes pairings as Shaun Mulryan & Padraig Mallon had five under with Sophie Farnan & Patrick Mitchell combining for four under par as Joseph Smith & Ollie Halfpenny went around in level par. Brian Bray & Jack Mullins of Westmeath did go round in six under but it was Dublin who were second at the halfway stage as Luke Devlin & Alex Keegan went round in five under par as Oisin Horan & Conaill Barnes and the combination of Darragh McGibney & Jamie Palmer both had level par.

In the Singles Meath had under par rounds from Mulryan (five), Farrell (two) and Smith (one) as well as one and two over from Mallon and Farnan respectively in finishing the tournament on one over par in total, 487. Westmeath could only manage level par rounds from Brian Bray and Jack Buckley at best in the Singles with both Jack and Conor Mullins shooting one over. Dublin had a four under round from Luke Devlin and two under from Conaill Barnes in the Singles alongside level par for Oisín Horan but ended up two shots behind Meath in third.

Louth finished fourth on 522 with Kildare fifth on 571.

There will be no Qualifying in the Leinster and Munster Scotch Foursomes.
