74 PAIRS are entered for tomorrow’s staging of the National Mixed Foursomes in Lakeside with play over two sessions as Communications & Press Officer Jason O’Connor takes a closer look at proceedings in Templemore tomorrow.

Session One

Most of the local interest will come here as all eight of the Lakeside pairings compete in the morning session. Chief among them are two time Munster winners and current holders of the provincial title in Elaine Quinn & Mick Fennell who were victorious in Hillview back in May. They tee-off alongside Nicola & Morty Ahern of Collins with Josie McCormack & Anthony Maher (Munster First Session Prize-winners) the first Lakeside pair to tee-off at 9.35am with Margaret & Liam O’Donovan of Bruff.

They are followed by club-mates Frances Ryan & Martin McCormack who tee-off alongside former National Runners-Up and former Munster winners Lisa O’Connor and Tony Blake of Tralee. Mary Quinn & Alan Maher have illustrious playing partners themselves in the form of another Collins pairing in Siobhan Scannell & John Walsh as Bridget Shelley & Patrick Quinn are also entered from the host club. Helen McMorrow & Noel Leahy will play with the Gross prize-winners from Hillview in Fermoy duo Sarah Byrne & Barry Morrissey as both the Munster Ladies & Junior Gents Strokeplay winners will find themselves playing in the same grouping.

Munster Junior Ladies Strokeplay Winner Sive Shelley (playing with Conor Keating) and Gents winner Dylan Seymour of Fermoy (playing with Angela O’Connor) tee-off at 10.10am with the final Lakeside pairing of Martha O’Brien & Paddy Murray playing alongside former National Runners-Up Margaret & Dean Courtney of Riverdale. Some other pairs to look out for in this session include Munster Runners-Up Pauline Lucey & Adrian Anglim of Hillview as well as Royal Meath’s Theresa Fagan & Sean Kelly.

Session Two

A predominantly Leinster feel to this session which gets underway at 12.30pm as former Leinster Winners Stella Sheridan & Frank Connolly get things underway alongside Dina Dillon & Tom Hughes of St Bridgets. After last year’s magnificent showing for Lucan on home turf, the Dublin club head to Tipperary with a significant entry once more of six pairs. Sean Coyne Cup holders Marie O’Toole & Ted Flynn tee-off alongside Seapoint’s Ann & Patsy Fagan in defence of their title at 12.50pm as last year’s Runners-Up immediately precede them.

Tracey Smith & Anthony Malone tee-off with McBride’s Padraic Sarsfield & Audrey Donnelly as Leinsters holders Catherine & Ian Dillon tee-off in the penultimate pairing alongside Cunnigar’s Cáit Mulcahy & John O’Shea. Gross Prize winners from the Leinster event in Ringcommons, Phil Condron & Patrick Croke (also Lucan) tee-off with Noeleen & Michael Bedford of Seapoint as 2016 winner Chrissie Byrne plays with Darren Keogh this year and they are paired with Trim’s Margaret Conneely & John Gilesnan. Ray & Linda Murphy play with Ryston’s Esther & Paddy Martin as former Leinster winners Mary Farrell & Martin Reilly of Gaeil Colmcille play with McDonagh’s Moira Behan & Michael Monaghan.

The final pairing of the day to tee-off sees St Bridgets’ Ann & Christy Sweeney (National 0-55 winners in both Junior grades) tee-off alongside Mary O’Neill & Patsy Hackett of Cunnigar. It should be another interesting day of patience and understanding amongst partners in determining the winners of this quite tricky format featuring alternate tee-shots.

Best Wishes to all pairs travelling to Lakeside for tomorrow’s event. Updates will be available on the PPUI website throughout the day.
