ON a day when scoring was never going to be easy, Davis College Mallow retained the National title to go with their Munster victory in Bruff back in March to complete an unprecedented third success in four years in the competition on Friday afternoon in Tullamore. Ed Walsh, Roy Whelan and Greg Barrett once again emerged victorious after Walsh carded a level par round of 108 to go with five over and eight over totals from Barrett and Whelan respectively to finish with 337, one ahead of Douglas Community School in second.

Cian Morrison, like he did in the Munster event, finished with the best individual score of three under par (the only player to finish under par on the day) but rounds of five over par from Iain Aherne and 12 over from Aaron Aherne saw them finish on 14 over par to finish second ahead of a third Cork School in the Colaiste an Chraoibhín Fermoy 1 team. Dale Dawson (four over), Seamus Óg Shealy (five over) and Conor McCarthy (nine over) made up a score of 18 over par as they finished one shot ahead of yet another Cork School in fourth in Carraigaline Community School 1 as the 2014 winners of the competition finished on 343.

The best Leinster School would come in fifth as Mercy Secondary School Kilbeggan finished on 355 with Michael Carton (eight over), Alex Egan (10 over) and Dylan Carton (13 over) combining for the Westmeath School’s score as they finished three shots ahead of Colaiste na hInse in sixth who scored 358.
