Communications & Press Officer Jason O'Connor reports on today's National Mixed Foursomes from Lucan.

ANOTHER great day for Lucan in 2017 but probably a more significant one seeing as it came on home turf as four of the five prizes on offer in today’s National Mixed Foursomes went the way of the host club. The battle for the outright winner was tight, six teams managing to score double figures on the plus side but in the end Marie O’Toole and Ted Flynn were the pair to emerge victorious.

A good start proved crucial for Marie & Ted as rounds of 8up and 5up gave them the winning score of 13up from the competition’s morning session as only the runners-up Tracey Smith & Anthony Malone were able to score 8up besides the winners in an 18 hole round. Tracey and Anthony were left to rue an opening round of 4up in missing out on the Sean Coyne Cup however as their great second round just came up short. Leinster Mixed Foursomes winners Catherine & Ian Dillon were two off the title but claimed the first session prize with rounds of 6up and 5up for an 11up total. They claimed the prize by one shot from local duo Agnes Dignam & Damian Creevy who finished on 10up.

Brenda Purcell & Terry McMorrow also finished on 10up Nett but a Gross score of 4up saw them claim the non-handicapped prize by a stroke from Seapoint’s Noeleen & Michael Bedford who had 3up. The only prize-winner to come from the second session were the pair of Sandra & Peter Keogh as rounds of 6up and 5up saw them finish on 11up to appropriately enough win the second session prize.

That was three clear of their nearest challengers Lisa O’Connor & Tony Blake from Tralee who finished the tournament on 8up.
