Communications & Press Officer Jason O’Connor reports on a win for the Lakeside Ladies in the final National event of 2017.

Like they did back at the same venue back in 2014, Lakeside of Templemore once again won the National Ladies Inter-Club title becoming the first club to win in the event twice in its short history. They got the better of the same quartet who beat them in last year’s Final in Chrissie Byrne, Marian Courtney, Tara Dillon and Margaret Keogh as the Ryston women had to defeat Riverdale earlier in the day to make the decider.

The Kildare club had a 4.5 to 1.5 win over Nenagh in the first of two matches today, Marian & Tara (5&4) along with Chrissie & Margaret (1up) winning both doubles matches to give them an early 2-0 lead. Margaret Courtney did get a win for Riverdale in the Singles over Marian (2&1) but a half for Margaret Forde in her match with Chrissie was their only other score as Tara (5&4) and Margaret (1up) ensured Ryston’s place in the decider.

Even without a game beforehand Lakeside gave themselves a great start in the Final by winning both doubles to go 2-0 up, Helen McMorrow & Elaine Quinn (1up), Josie McCormack & Sive Shelley (3&2) with their wins. Despite 6&5 wins for both Chrissie and Marian in their Singles games, a 4&3 win for Sive Shelley and a half for Elaine Quinn in her Singles match with Tara Dillon were enough to secure a 4.5 to 2.5 win for the Templemore outfit.

Bridget Shelley & Frances Ryan made up the winning side on the day in bringing the competitive year at national level to a close.
