2016 Munster Mixed Foursomes Latest

Communications & Press Officer Jason O’Connor reports on today’s Provincial Mixed Foursomes competitions in Munster and Leinster.

Leinster

A TIGHT contest in Lucan saw Old County duo Ann O’Shea & Kevin Bermingham come out on top as they won by a single shot over their nearest challengers. A round of 7up in their second 18 was the key to their success as they started with a round of 4up in winning the title by a score of 11up. Two pairs finished second on 10up, McBride’s Audrey Donnelly & Padraic Sarsfield along with Tracey Smith & Anthony Malone from the host club but a better second 18 of 6up gave the McBride pair the runners-up spot.

Smith & Malone’s total of 6up in their first 18 would give them the prize for the first round however as the second 18 prize also went to a Lucan combination with Phil Condron & Patrick Croke winning the prize with a total of 9up after a disappointing start of 1down saw them finish on 8up overall. The Gross went to the Kildare pairing of Darren Keogh & Christine Byrne meanwhile as rounds of 6up and 3up saw them finish four clear of their nearest challengers for the prize. Their total was the fourth best total overall today.

Munster

For the second year-in-a-row a pair from Lakeside came out on top in the southern province as Elaine Quinn & Mick Fennell prevented a home success in Tralee with a 36 hole total of 10up for a three shot win. 2014 winners Lisa O’Connor & Tony Blake finished second overall with a total of 7up as 6up was the winning score in both of the 18 hole prizes. Mary Murray of Rocklodge added to the Gross prize of last year by winning the first 18 prize alongside club-mate Gareth O’Mahony while the second 18 went to Riverdale duo Margaret & Dean Courtney with 6up.

The Gross prize went to Ballinlough duo Paula Nolan & Hugh Cooney with 4up.
