2016 National Seniors Ladies Strokeplay Latest

DAY one is complete at the National Seniors Strokeplay and we have a new name to add to the Senior Ladies list in Tipperary Hills' Breda Lonergan with a 10 under par 98 giving her victory over Shandon's Maree O'Toole by two strokes. Rounds of six and four under par respectively gave Breda her 36 hole total as she adds the Seniors crown to her National Matchplay and Strokeplay titles. Maree had a five under par opening followed by a three under closing to finish on eight under with former winner Margaret Hogan from Tullamore third on six under par following a closing round of six under.

The Intermediate grade was dominated by Rocklodge’s Mary Murray with a score of eight under par as she had 14 shots to spare over her nearest challenger. Three and five under par rounds gave Mary her big win with Jean Clancy from the host club second on 114 (six over par). Third place in the grade had to be settled on countback as a better second round of 56 for Hillview’s Pauline Lucey as opposed to 58 for St Bridgets Mary Sherry saw her claim the prize after both finished on 115. There was to be success for St Bridgets in the Junior grade however as Dina Dillon was the player to come out of top.

Rounds of 57 and 60 saw Dina finish on 117, two clear of Fermoy’s Noreen Ryan in second after the player from the host club had rounds of 59 and 60 respectively. Third went to Cunnigar’s Stella Kinsella who despite shooting the best round in the grade with 56 had to settle for third with a closing 66 to finish on 122.
