2015 National Seniors Championships Day One Report
Clean Sweep of titles for Dublin on Day One
A THANKFULLY beautiful day weather-wise saw some very close scoring in the National Ladies Seniors in Old County with new winners crowned in all three grades today.
RGSC’s Ger Holland defeated defending champion Margaret Hogan of Tullamore to take the Senior grade with a brilliant two under par round for her second 18 good enough to give her victory by four shots on one over par overall. Margaret had led the field after the first 18 with one over (two ahead of Ger) but was left to rue a second round of three over par as she finished the event on four over, 112. Rounds of four and one over par gave Fairview CY’s Geraldine Edwards third place on 113.
The Intermediate Grade saw success for the host club as Agnes Redmond won a very competitive event by a single shot as she came from eight shots behind the leading score at the halfway point to win. Former Junior winner Margaret Forde of Riverdale had a commanding lead over the field after the first 18 on two over par but a second round of 64 saw her having to make do with third overall for a finish as Agnes shot one over par in her second round to undo the damage of a first round of 64 to win with 119, 11 over par. Collins’ Patsy O’Donovan beat Margaret for second on countback following a second round of five over par. They were the only Munster prize-winners on the day.
In the Junior, Glenville’s Catherine Fox made it a great day for the Dubs with a total of 128 giving her a two shot win from both Ryston’s Theresa O’Keeffe and Rathfeigh’s Joan Caffery. Rounds of 60 and 68 gave Catherine her win with a second round of 60 good enough to give Theresa runner-up by three strokes on countback from Joan after they both finished their 36 holes on 130.
