FOR the second time in three years and at the same venue, that they were successful in back in 2013, Davis College Mallow 1 were crowned 2015 National Secondary School Competition in Lakeside. They won by virtue of a combined total of 311 (13 under par). The exact same trio who were on the winning team two years ago, Ed Walsh, Greg Barrett and Roy Whelan comprised the successful side as two six under par rounds from both Walsh and Barrett alongside a one under par score for Whelan gave them a four shot victory over St Brendans College Killarney. Davis College 1 had previously finished second in the recent Munster competition in Fermoy.
The Killarney School were third in Lakeside two years ago and went one better this time courtesy of the best individual round of the day from Creagh Courtney with seven under par with Michael Cronin shooting four under and Sean Courtney two over par to give them a combined total of 315, (nine under par). Third place went to last year’s winning school Carraigaline Community School on 319 (five under par) as Shane Livesey and Ruairi Mehigan both shot three under and Iain O’Donoghue one over par in giving them the bronze medal by two shots from Colaiste an Chraoibhin Fermoy in fourth on 321. Munster Champions Douglas Community School finished fifth overall on 331.
Killina Presentation Secondary School were the best of the Leinster Schools (sixth overall) on 335 just two shots ahead of the winners of the recent Leinster competition St Marys Drogheda 1 on 337.
