Now that the participating children are back at school, we can reflect on the months of July and August when over 200 children attended PPUI Summer Camps across the country. This year, a record eight camps were held in Old County, Lakewood, McBride, Seapoint, Tralee, St. Bridget’s, Deerpark and Lakeside. Once again this year, great credit is due to these clubs for making these camps happen, providing great opportunities for children to play Pitch and Putt in the summer months. Great credit is also due to the coaches, who nurtured the talent of the participants for the week.
In it’s fourth year now, the PPUI Summer Camp programme aims to develop Pitch and Putt skills of children while they have fun. One of the most popular activities in the week long camps is the trip to a nearby course, allowing the children a chance to test themselves on a new track. Many thanks to Rocklodge, Castletown, Ringcommons, Deerpark, Poulaphouca, Tralee and Riverdale for accommodating the visiting Summer Camps.
At the end of the week each child received a “PPUI Summer Camps 2013”polo shirt, and a sleeve of Nassau Quattro balls, complete with the PPUI logo. The balls, a favourite of Dutch Pitch and Putt players, were supplied by the Dutch based Nassau company. They were extremely well received at the summer camps and you can be sure to see more of them on the circuit in 2014.
The PPUI would like to build on the success of the Summer Camps again in 2014. If interested, please don’t hesitate to contact the PPUI office. You could replicate the experience of the 2013 Seapoint camp, pictured above. The club, hosting their first ever camp in 2013, set a participant record with nearly 50 children attending for the week. Special congratulations are due to all involved at the Termonfeckin club.
